Backflow testing for Columbus water customers
The largest water system in central Ohio, supplying Columbus and more than twenty suburban communities. If your building is inside the Columbus service area, Columbus is the authority on your backflow assembly regardless of which suburb you are in.
What Columbus requires
- How often
- At least once every 12 months
- Approved tester list
- Columbus keeps its own list of accepted testers.
- How the result is handled
- Testing must be carried out by a plumber or contractor approved by the city; Columbus keeps the approved tester list on its consumers' page.
- If it is not done
- Backflow testing is a condition of water service in the Columbus system.
Confirmed with Columbus on 2026-10-05 · their backflow page · their backflow office: 614-645-6674 / backflow@columbus.gov. Requirements change — we re-confirm before every test.
What we do
- Test the assembly with a calibrated gauge, and show you the readings.
- Repair on the spot where we can — we carry rebuild kits for the common RPZ and double check assemblies, so a failure usually does not mean a second visit.
- File the result with the water company, rather than handing you a form to post on.
- Track your due date and come back before it, not after the reminder letter.
